BVESA offers a variety of committees to be a part of throughout the school year. BVESA events can’t happen without the support of our committees. This committee page provide detailed information about each committee and chair/co-chair contact information. Advocacy

Coordinate advocacy efforts – in support of funding – on behalf of BVES; liaise with BCSD to coordinate and align efforts.  Flexible time commitment and work can be done remotely and outside of school hours.

BVES Art Show

Assist in displaying art around the school building for the BVES Art Show, in collaboration with committee chairs and Art Instructor, Madalyn Grano. Show will be in May 2020 and volunteers work the two weeks before at a time that works for them. Very flexible time requirement.

Beautification

Help plant and decorate seasonally around the school grounds – this doesn’t include weeding or routine maintenance. You don’t need to have a green thumb but it is certainly helpful if you do!! Very flexible time requirement.

Bike Run

Be a volunteer on the one day district-wide event OR get more involved as a BVES liaison with the broader BCSD leadership team. The event is for all elementary schools in the district, so someone else is in charge of the overall planning, but the BVESA Chair helps with promotion and registration and on the day of the event. Minimal commitment required.

Book Fair

Volunteer at the annual Fall and Spring Scholastic Book Fair fundraiser. Flexible time commitment for volunteers; more significant commitment for Chairs.

Box Tops

Collect Box Tops submitted to the box by the front office and count/mail them in twice per year. Chair will run a year-long competition among the classes to see which class contributed the most Box Tops throughout the year – there is a winner from grades K-2 and 3-5. Winning classes get an ice cream social in the Spring that the Box Tops committee funds and coordinates.Time commitment is limited and work can be done from home. Committee Chair

BV R.E.A.C.H. After-School Program

BVESA is excited to run an after-school enrichment program where students can take classes that allow them to explore specific interests and talents. Share your ideas or join the team to help organize and staff the program.

Class Parents

Class Parent Chairs oversee the selection of grade class parents and serves as liaison between BVES and BVESA and class parents. Selected grade class parents serve as liaison between parents and teachers to organize class events and volunteers. Time commitment for class parents varies by grade.

Communications

The Communications Committee is looking for volunteers! Help write the content for and handling of the distribution of the BVESA Buzz – the weekly Sunday communication between BVESA and BVES parents/staff. Assist with keeping the content up to date on BVESA.com and Classroom Parent – BVESA’s online directory. Work can be done from home. Writing experience, knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite and WordPress helpful but not necessary.

Enrichment

Research and liaise with teachers to plan for BVESA-funded enrichment programs and assemblies offered on-site and off-site for all students. All work can be done from home and liaised with BVESA remotely.

FAME

Attend monthly FAME meetings to organize and implement fundraising that supports the Arts, Music and Theater at BCSD.

Family Fun Night

Help out with a night of family BINGO! Work with committee chair to help set up tables, chairs and bingo sets the night of the event AND/OR help gather items for raffle baskets in the months before.

Field Day

Work with committee chairs to bring one of the most school-spirited days of the year to life!  Volunteers needed the morning of field day and during the event to set-up and run stations. One day time commitment.

Fifth Grade Activities

Chairs organize the fundraising to support 5th grade activities and work with 5th grade teachers to plan events. Committee Chairs need MANY volunteers to assist for the various events, including Yearbook, Pancake Breakfast, End of Year Picnic and 5th Grade Dance. Committe Co-Chairs:

Health and Wellness

Hospitality

Volunteers needed to set-up coffee and light snacks at BVES evening events (i.e. Back to School Night, Parent/Teacher Conferences) and prepare food or purchase beverages for the Teacher/Staff Appreciation Luncheons that take place during the long morning-night Parent/Teacher conference day when students are not at school.

Indoor Recess Carts

Kindergarten Activities & New Family Buddies


Co-chairs are in charge of a number of activities geared toward making the transition into Kindergarten and BVES as smooth as possible and need volunteers to make it all happen!  Specifically:

  • Coordinate the Kindergarten and New Families Picnic the week before school;
  • Match new BVES families with ‘buddy’ families in their grade;
  • Arrange for parent volunteers to ride the school bus with Kindergarteners on the first two half days of school; and
  • Secure current BVES parents to sit and chat with incoming parents while incoming kindergarteners are screened in the spring.

Library/Media Center

With recent budget cuts, we need more help in our library than ever before.  Volunteers needed to help with re-shelving returned books and ensuring books are in proper alphabetical /numerical order. Time commitment is 1/2 hr. – 1 hr. (any time during school day) on a weekly or bi-weekly basis throughout the school year.

Music Support: Strings, Band and Chorus

Assist teachers with any needs and communicate with parents. Purchase and present flowers for directors and teachers after every performance.

Publishing Center/Book Binding
Co-chairs manage the schedule with teachers and coordinate volunteers to staff the Publishing Center. The Publishing Center allows each child the opportunity to publish a book every year. Volunteers are needed to interview students, type, edit and bind books. This committee offers a very flexible volunteer opportunity.

School Pictures

Volunteers needed to help on Picture Day and Make-up Picture Day for the day.

School Store - Spirit Wear

Volunteers help run the School Store on Fridays from 8:20 – 9:10 a.m.  Responsibilities include store set-up; selling the various school supplies, then putting the inventory back in the supply closet once the 9 a.m. bell rings. Very flexible and short time commitment.

School Supplies

Planning and ordering takes place in spring and delivery to classrooms is in August. Volunteers needed for a couple of hours the last week of August to help distribute children’s pre-packs (already pre- assembled) from the gym to respective classrooms.

Science Show

Volunteers are needed to staff the registration table, set up and clean up the display room (the gym), and assist visiting scientists in moving around the room..

Spelling Bee

Volunteers are needed to staff the registration table and manage participant traffic on and off the stage; additional volunteers needed to facilitate and serve as a judge during the event. Committee Chair:

Spring Fundraiser

 

Save the date – Saturday, April 18, 2020 is the BVES Auction Spring Fundraising Event. Volunteers are needed to assist with organizing, collecting donations and planning for this big event. Proceeds from the event go back to BVESA for new programs and enhancements to our school.
